Information Needed When Asking for Help

When asking for help, include the following information:

  1. City
This helps people advise you on food, specialists, possible foster carers, and so on.

  2. The bird's weight
This is important for diagnosis and for understanding whether the bird is weakened. A weakened bird needs gentler feeding (squeezed insect abdomens) and more frequent feeding. The normal weight of an adult swift is about 40 grams. Chicks should weigh more.
Tip: if you do not have kitchen scales, you can weigh the swift in a box at a shop, then remove the bird and see the weight of the box. The difference is the swift's weight.

  3. Whether there is any blood, injuries, or asymmetry in posture (photo)

  4. A brief (!) history
Under what circumstances did you find the bird, what actions have you taken, and how is it behaving?

  5. A full top view photo of the swift on a light background, a photo of the face, clear photos of any injuries (if present), and ideally a video of the swift's behavior.
From these materials, specialists can identify problems, give recommendations, or decide whether to take the bird from you (no one wants to take a complete unknown).

  6. Your question, which you want answered.
